Andrei Gavrilov tours RussiaAt the beginning of October Samara, Moscow and St. Petersburg had a chance to host the long awaited concerts of the Russian pianist Andrei Gavrilov. The graduate of the Moscow Conservatory who won his first prize in the 1974 International Tchaikovsky Competition, a protégé of Sviatoslav Richter and one of the most brilliant modern pianists performed together with the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra. Red Wings Airlines made their contribution to the realization of the tour. The tour of Russia was a successful charity project of National Reserve Corporation as Mr. Gavrilov’s comfort during the tour was assured by Red Wings Airlines owned by Alexander Lebedev. The public responded with ovations to Mendelssohn Symphony No.11 for string orchestra and Bach Piano concertos F major, F minor and D minor performed by Andrei Gavrilov together with Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra and Christoph Altshtaedt as conductor. The pianist played his heart out taking the most of the instrument, of himself and of the public. Living in Switzerland, earlier in London, having performed in all the major cultural centres in the world, Andrei Gavrilov has made a reputation of a cosmopolitan, philosopher and a temperamental artist who turns each of his concerts into a real drama. The artist has great plans. Next year he works on a video project that includes a release of DVDs with recordings of Chopin and Schumann. The project should be completed by 2010, the 200 anniversary year for the two composers. “There are no dead ends, there are pauses and anticipations”, believes Mr. Gavrilov speaking of modern artists. “All new phenomena emerge after great cataclysms. The most important today is the self development. There are no recipes. One should be able to listen to the inner voice, be patient to oneself and have a strong belief. New music will be heard soon”.
